Mucuna pruriens (Velvet bean) seed extract ameliorates epilepsy and anxiety against in vivo experimental models: A histopathological analysis

Introduction: the plant Mucuna pruriens is traditionally used in Indian system ofmedicine for therapy of several neurological disorders. Chemical investigationson have established presence levodopa and tryptamine which areresponsible treating disorders like Parkinsonism. Objective:the objective this research was to scientifically explore ascertain its antiepilepticand anxiolytic activity preclinical studies on Swiss albino mice. Materialand Method: antiepileptic effect ethanolic extract Mucunapruriens (EEMP) tested against maximal electroshock (MES) pentylenetetrazol(PTZ)-induced convulsions, Elevated Plus Maze, light dark arena. Actophotometertest performed evaluate potential locomotor deficitinducing action. Result: treatment mice with EEMP significantly upturned theMES-induced reflected by diminution time interval(sec) entire phases MES-induced an improvement GABAlevels. In PTZ model, pretreatment delayed latency reducedthe intensity clonic convulsions (p< 0.0001), also oftonic as well decrease mortality treated groups ina dose-dependent manner. intervention dose dependently restored brainGABA levels. Assessment GABA mice’s brain after administration EEMPexhibits significant modulation Conclusion: overall, findingssuggest that has anticonvulsant properties aremediated positive GABAergic neurotransmission hence could be treatepileptic seizures, petitmal grandmal epilepsy.
